FAQ about Using the RLink X3 with OEM Software

FAQ about Using the RLink X3 with OEM Software

Q: Can I use the RLink device without an Internet connection?
A: Yes. After binding and activating the RLink device and downloading the corresponding driver on the RLink Platform, you can perform vehicle diagnostics offline, except when using online diagnostic software or BMW diagnostic software.

Q: Are computers purchased from specialized institutional platforms restricted from using third-party VCIs?
A: Some institutions may impose security restrictions that lock the computer and prevent the use of third-party VCIs. In such cases, please contact the institution's customer service for further assistance.

Q: Is the serial number used for Chrysler software activation the same as the one on the VCI?
A: No, it isn't. The serial number used for activation refers to the computer's internal serial number. To find it, launch the wiTECH 2.0 software and click "Help". The system will then display the "About wiTECH2" pop-up containing the serial number.

Q: What’s the difference between the RLink X3 and the RLink J2534?
A: 1. The RLink X3 has a fixed USB cable, while the RLink J2534 features a replaceable one.
2. The RLink X3 supports only three vehicle brands: Chrysler, GM, and Ford. In contrast, the RLink J2534 is compatible with J2534-compliant diagnostic software across 15 vehicle brands.

Q: What is the difference between OEM software and integrated diagnostic device?
A: 1. OEM software typically contains newer, more comprehensive, accurate, and detailed data information compared to that of integrated diagnostic equipment.
     2. In terms of vehicle programming, using OEM software can achieve programming that integrated diagnostic devices cannot.

Q: The device is connected properly, but the OEM software still cannot recognize the vehicle's VIN code. How to solve it?
A: 1. Check whether the vehicle's ignition switch is on.
    2. Check whether the driver is downloaded correctly. (Note: If there is another driver, uninstall it.)
    3. Open the OEM software and check whether the selected diagnostic VCI is "RLink".
    4. Check whether there are any updates for the RLink X3 firmware If so, it is recommended to update it.
    5. Check whether there is any software update for the RLink Platform, and check whether the drivers are updated. If so, it is recommended to update them.
    6. If the above faults are eliminated, it is recommended to restart the OEM software. (Connection bug sometimes may occur in the OEM software.)

Q: Can I diagnose the vehicle if the wrong driver mode is selected?
A: It is recommended to select the correct driver mode.
Note: If the wrong drive mode is selected, vehicles from most brands cannot be diagnosed. However, for a few brands, it may be possible to diagnose the vehicle, but the diagnostic results may be inaccurate.

Q: The device is connected to the vehicle properly, but the RLink Platform prompts that the device is not connected and the vehicle is connected. How to solve it?
A: 1. Check whether there is an update for the RLink Platform firmware. If so, update it.
    2. It is recommended to restart the RLink Platform and re-plug the VCI of the RLink X3.
    3. Check whether any third-party brand drivers of similar products are installed.

Q: Are there any tutorials or videos on how to use the OEM software with RLink devices?
A: Yes, we have provided instruction documents for each OEM software brand compatible with RLink devices. You can find these resources at https://service.topdon.com/portal/en/kb/topdon/RLink-diagnostic-series.

Q: After the driver is downloaded, can I close the RLink Platform when using the OEM software for local diagnostics?
A: Yes. The RLink Platform is only required when running the BMW OEM software. Closing the RLink Platform will cause diagnostic failure.

Q: Where can I download and install OEM software?
A: 1. You can purchase and download OEM software from the official websites of the respective vehicle manufacturers. For details, visit the OEM software download pages provided by each brand.
     2. If you need assistance with the installation process, you have the option to purchase the software through third-party channels that may offer installation support.
Note: OEM software is not included with the RLink devices and must be purchased separately.

Q: Does RLink X3 support the function of cloning module data?
A: RLink X3 are VCI devices compatible with OEM software from various vehicle brands, and can serve as replacements for the OEM diagnostic VCI. The capability to clone module data is contingent upon the specific functions supported by the OEM software you are using.

Q: When I open the OEM software for diagnostics, I receive a prompt stating that the vehicle cannot communicate with the VCI, which prevents the vehicle from being diagnosed. How can I resolve this issue?
A: 1. Check if you have downloaded the VCI diagnostic driver. If not, download the driver first.
     2. Check if you have switched VCI and selected RLink mode in the OEM software. If not, select RLink diagnostic mode first.
     3. Check if the vehicle ignition switch is turned on. If not, turn on the ignition switch before diagnosing.
     4. Check if the voltage of the vehicle is lower than 12 V, as some vehicles cannot be diagnosed under such conditions. If the voltage is low, connect a power supply to the vehicle or start the vehicle for diagnostics.
